This Deadly Ghost ship had Everyone Dead!
We have heard a lot about ghost ships in movies, TV shows, novels and what not! Tales like these are being passed from one generation to another. And although they are hard to believe, some of them are considered to be true. The tale of the ghost ship S.S. Ourang Medan is one such account which has many theories supporting its authenticity.
The story began either on June 1947 or late February 1948, many ships sailing along the Straits of Malacca near Sumatra and Malaysia received a distressing SOS by an unknown vessel. The SOS message was said to be separated into two parts with a mystery Morse code that no one could crack. This message read:
“All Officers, including the Captain, are dead. Lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew dead. … I die.”
There was no other message after this horrifying text which compelled two American vessels to investigate. They picked the signal and pinpointed the location of the Dutch freighter S.S. Ourang Medan by triangulating it using Dutch and British listening posts. The ship to first reach the troubled freighter was an American merchant ship called the Silver Star. As the Silver Star approached the Dutch freighter, no signs of life were found.
But as the search crew stepped onto the deck of the S.S. Ourang Medan, they were horrified by what they saw. The message was true; the decks of the ship were filled with corpses of the crew and all of them had a wide-eyed face filled with terror at the time of their deaths. They looked like they were trying to fight off something but they failed. Literally everyone in the ship was dead and had the same expression.
No one knows how and why this happened. But all of this seems to have come out of a ghost ship movie. There are many theories behind it and I am sure you have already come up with one!
