The Story That Inspired Raazi.
Alia Bhatt’s latest movie ‘Raazi’ is a must watch movie of 2018. It is one of those rare movies in which the content is the king and this content was inspired by a novel ‘Calling Sehmat’ written by an ex-naval officer, Harinder Sikka.
Harinder Sikka, in an interview with The Hindu, shared how he came across the story of this daring undercover kashmiri spy. After the Kargil war, SIkka had decided to write media articles on the alleged failure of Indian Intelligence Bureau. He says, “I was angry and even questioned the patriotism of certain people in the Intelligence Department.”
But then he came across an Army Officer who happened to be the son of an Indian spy. He shared how his mother got trained as a spy and then married a Pakistani officer just to provide ‘classified information during the 1971 war.’ Later she came back to India pregnant and gifted us an Indian Army officer
Sikka also tracked the woman and got a chance to meet her at her place in Maler Kota, Punjab. Slowly she opened up and all the information she passed matched with the Indian Intelligence report here. The most important one being Pakistan’s plan to sink INS Viraat. Just because her courage, the biggest pride of our sea still exists.
This courageous woman who was trained just to be a facilitator went all the way to save the nation. Kudos to her father, who belonged to a patriotic family, pushed his daughter to do such a heroic act.
Her son is now out of service from the Army and she is no more. But the story of her courage, loyalty and patriotism remains an inspiration to every Indian. People like these make us proud to be Indian.
It’s time for us to commemorate her and tell her tale to as many people as possible in a hope to ignite a true sense of patriotism in many.
