If you are a Delhite, you might have heard about Lazeez Affaire or Tamasha or Flying Saucer or maybe Lord of the Drinks. What these all restaurants have in common is a man behind the success of all of them. Priyank Sukhija is India’s most successful restaurateur with 27 jam-packed restaurants running across the country.
At the mere age of 19, he started off with his first restaurant Lazeez Affaire which is now 18 years old. At that time, he didn’t have any relevant degree or much knowledge but all he had was passion- ‘passion for food’. As soon as he got a good location in Connaught Place, he started this predominantly North Indian cuisine restaurant with a team that is working till date.
Be it in Mumbai, Chennai, Pune or Delhi, you will always find his restaurants full with people and good vibes. In one of his interviews, he said, “I don’t want to own the place you go to once or twice a year on occasions. I want mine to be the places you can drop in to any time of the day, every week.”
What is also true is that one cannot be successful without facing any failure. Just like any other human being, Priyank has also seen a lot of failures. “Pure Punjab in Delhi’s Khan Market didn’t work. There was a Bollywood themed bar called Lights Camera Action that also failed. I did a gourmet burger restaurant called Fork, which worked for a year and then went bust. I think it might have been ahead of its time, because earlier, people didn’t have the psychology to spend Rs 500 on a burger,” says Sukhija
Today, his success speaks out loud about his determination, perseverance and hard work. His story is an inspiration to all the young entrepreneurs and has a message that ‘Hard Work always triumphs at the end.’
